During Blue Week 2026, the international maritime innovation conference organized by MARIN (Maritime Research Institute Netherlands), Sea Green Engineering had the opportunity to present its concept for a 120MW Floating Nuclear Power Plant.

The presentation was delivered by co-founder Gianmarco Teso, who introduced the company’s vision for mobile offshore nuclear energy systems designed to support flexible and resilient power generation at sea.

The discussions throughout the event reflected a clear and growing interest in offshore energy systems. Engaging with industry professionals and researchers provided valuable feedback and fresh perspectives, which will contribute to the ongoing refinement of Sea Green Engineering’s concept.

Sea Green Engineering would like to express its sincere gratitude to MARIN for organizing the event, to ENSM (École Nationale Supérieure Maritime) in Marseille for hosting the conference, and to all speakers and participants for the high quality of discussions and contributions throughout the week.

Special thanks are also extended to Claudio Filippone (Filippone and Associates) for his support in providing valuable data supporting the integration of HOLOS reactor technology within the proposed system.

At its core, the concept remains simple: when power becomes mobile, energy access becomes universal.

Last week, Sea Green Engineering participated in a site visit and onboard survey of the ANTE TOPIC bulk carrier at Port Morski Police, Poland, as part of the ongoing activities within the EU-funded GAMMA project.

The survey and technical meetings marked a key milestone in the development of the project, which aims to retrofit a bulk vessel with a next-generation hydrogen-based fuel cell system capable of generating 1 MW of clean electric power.

The innovative system will use green ammonia and biomethanol as primary fuels. These will be converted into hydrogen through ammonia cracking and methanol reforming processes. After purification, the hydrogen will be used to power fuel cells, replacing the vessel’s conventional auxiliary diesel generators.

To further enhance the system’s environmental performance, part of the hydrogen production process will be powered by renewable energy sources, such as solar panels, significantly reducing overall emissions.

Sea Green Engineering is proud to contribute to this ambitious project by providing specialized expertise in structural integration, vessel stability, and seakeeping analysis, supporting the safe and effective deployment of these advanced technologies on board.

We are pleased to play an active role in this important step toward decarbonising maritime transport and demonstrating the feasibility of hydrogen-based auxiliary systems for commercial shipping.

We are thrilled to announce the successful conclusion of the PROMESEO research project, funded under PR FESR 2021-2027, conducted in collaboration with NablaWave Srl. This initiative has enabled Sea Green Engineering to develop our innovative NEXT software.

– What Can NEXT Do?

NEXT revolutionizes the preliminary sizing of full electric PPE (Power Propulsion Energy) systems for any type of vessel through a holistic approach. By inputting critical data such as the ship’s hull model, available system volumes, operating profile, and shore-based charging locations, NEXT utilizes an Mixed-Integer Quadratic Programming (MIQP) optimization algorithm to determine the size of the electric motor, the optimal quantity and type of Electric Storage Systems (ESS), and the power specifications for shore charging stations. The on-board auxiliary and energy management systems are optimally designed to minimise costs and maximise energy efficiency in long-term operation.

This ensures that both the electric vessel and the recharge system are technically viable and cost-effective.

– Who Is NEXT For?

Our consulting service, powered by NEXT, is designed for ship operators, ship designers, and ESS manufacturers. We aim to assist in identifying the best solutions for converting existing ships or developing new fully electric units. NEXT enables comprehensive comparisons of different technologies and identifies the most suitable solutions based on specific requirements.

– What Makes NEXT Unique?

NEXT stands out due to its holistic approach, which considers the entire system, including the strong relationship between the ship PPE system and the shore charging infrastructure. This approach allows us to identify solutions that address all aspects and limitations of electrification, including:

– Vessel weight and volume constraints

– The increase in energy demand with the increase of vessel weight

– Ship stability

– Charging infrastructure limitations

– PPE system operation to reduce costs

NEXT ensures that every element is optimized for a seamless and efficient transition to full electric power.

Sea Green Engineering is pleased to announce its participation in the European GAMMA project, a groundbreaking initiative aimed at making maritime transport more sustainable. With a total investment of €17 million, this five-year project brings together leading companies and researchers from across Europe to advance green shipping solutions.

The GAMMA project is dedicated to transforming ocean transport by implementing innovative technologies that reduce environmental impact. One of its primary objectives is the upgrade of a 60,000-tonne deadweight bulk carrier, incorporating cutting-edge energy solutions to align with international climate targets.

This initiative is closely aligned with the objectives set by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) to decarbonize the shipping industry. By collaborating with 16 European partners, the GAMMA project aims to make long-distance maritime transport more sustainable through the integration of advanced fuel technologies.

A key component of the project is the installation of an advanced fuel system designed to convert ammonia and green methanol into hydrogen. This hydrogen will be utilized to generate electricity through a fuel cell, significantly reducing reliance on conventional auxiliary generators powered by fossil fuels.

Through its involvement in this initiative, Sea Green Engineering reinforces its commitment to sustainable maritime solutions, contributing to the global effort to reduce emissions and promote cleaner shipping practices.
